Tingaling and the Glump

July 23, 2012

Cora is so excited we just earned a new Moshling, Tingaling, the lucky cat. I have to admit, this one is a real cutie so I was looking forward to this lunch as much as she was!

Tingaling Moshling Sandwich
Tingaling is a cheese sandwich with fruit leather and soy paper accents. Her whiskers are uncooked spaghetti, and her ears are held in place with spaghetti as well.

Tingaling Moshling and Gump Lunch
Look out Tinagling, there is a Gump plum hiding in the pile of cherry lucky coins! In the other compartment are broccoli, carrots and cucumber drizzled with Ranch dressing.

Flumpy and the Gump

June 18, 2012

Cora loved the Roxy lunch so much we made another Moshling – Flumpy! And this time, I knew without being told to make a Gump too 🙂

Flumpy is a cheese quesadilla with fruit leather and cheese features and his name made out of fruit leather.

The Glump is another plum with cheese and fruit leather features, sitting on a pile of carrot sticks

The lunch is finished with a little hummus frozen in flower shapes.

Roxy and the Glump

June 13, 2012

Here’s another one for the Moshi Monster fans! Cora’s favorite Moshling is Roxy, a sparkly jewel that we ‘won’ by completing a Super Moshi Mission. Fun stuff!

Roxy is a cheese sandwich with cheese colored with natural colors and fruit leather and cheese features. Over her head are yogurt covered pretzels and fruit leather letters.

Cora took one look at the Roxy lunch and pointed out that the plum really should be a Glump. I love that kid, she is going to be making her own bentos in no time!

Lunch is finished with melon Rox (the Moshi Monsters currency) and a stack of carrot sticks.

Kissy Moshling Lunch

May 29, 2012

Cora has discovered Moshlings. They are adorable, but most the puzzles are over her head, so I get to play too 🙂

Kissy is a cheese sandwich with fruit leather features. To make her eye lashes, I cut a smile in half. Her rosy cheeks are pink soy paper. She is sitting on a pretzel platform and has yogurt pretzel hearts floating over her head.

The lunch is finished with heart shaped baked egg whites dyed pink with natural colors and heart shaped watermelon and pineapple.

Kitty Cuddles

May 16, 2012

Another inspiration from manga today!

I blended some cream cheese and a small handful of raspberries to make the filing for our cute little girl and kitty sandwiches. The features are cheese and a heck of a lot of fruit leather. Good thing that stuff is sugar and chemical free!

I decided the lunch needed a bit more protein so I cut a hard-boiled egg into two kitties, decorated with mustard. The whiskers are uncooked spaghetti.

The lunch was finished off with kitty shaped pineapple, watermelon and cantaloupe cut outs

Cora loved Lola Lovebug last week, so I knew she would be thrilled to meet Lola’s little ones

Our lil lovebugs are almond butter, coconut butter and jelly sandwiches with fruit leather features.

In the smallest compartment are all the toys the lovebugs have shoved in the closet – sugar snap peas, broccoli and carrots dotted with cheese hearts. The midsized compartment has all the love in their hearts – pineapple, watermelon, strawberry and kiwi hearts.

I think today’s lunch is near the top of my all-time favorites list. It is inspired by my drawing manga book and it really made me and Cora smile! The main reason I love it so is that Cora helped a lot (hence the hats on the fruit cats and the watermelon all over the floor). Cora took one look at the cute little chibi and named her Lola.

Lola’s body is a cheese sandwich with fruit leather features and her feet are almond butter, coconut butter and jelly sandwiches with fruit leather features. Her balloons are cherry tomatoes.

Since Lola is a love bug, she has a heart-shaped hard-boiled egg died orange with natural food dyes. The fruit is watermelon cut into kitties wearing hats.

I am getting the hang of the EasyLunchBoxes, and falling deeper and deeper in love. The PlanetBox is going to start collecting dust pretty soon!

Cuddly Critter Lunch

May 1, 2012

I’m still working my way through a fun art of manga drawing book. Today’s lunch derived from a cute little chibi bunny-like critter

I finished the lunch with cheese curls, yogurt covered pretzels, hummus and carrot sticks, kiwi butterflies

Giggly Lunch

April 25, 2012

I am officially obsessed with working out a ‘recipe’ for manga-like eyes! This giggling cutie is yet another cheese sandwich decorated with cheese and fruit leather

I also experimented with using silicone molds to make egg white shapes. They turned out great! I sprayed the mold with oil, poured in some egg whites and popped it in the oven for about 15 minutes on 325. The consistency is so smooth and the egg really picked up the details of the mold. I suspect I am about to start collecting molds now, we might need to build a second garage to house all my bento supplies!

I finished the lunch with organic baked cheese curls and butterfly watermelon and strawberry cutouts.

Dance of the Butterflies

April 23, 2012

I received a new how to draw manga book this week and am having a blast thinking through the characters and how to translate them to food. I’m still stuck on eyes. I might need to do a study of cartoon eyes in food!

Cheese sandwiches assembled into a dancing cutie, decorated with cheese and fruit leather.

I finished the lunch with hummus butterflies, cucumber and carrot sticks for dipping and fruit.
